Man who allegedly pointed gun at police helicopter charged

A 43-year-old man has been charged after he allegedly pointed a gun at a police helicopter in rural west Auckland.

Police were called to an address in Massey just after 1am after a man called them reporting the sound of a shotgun firing.

"He believed it related to a particular address," Insp Kerry Watson told Newshub. "We were focused on that address… however the police helicopter, whilst flying overhead, saw an individual from a different address come out and present a firearm at the helicopter."

The armed offenders squad was called in, surrounding a property on Red Hills Rd in neighbouring Taupaki.

The man will be appearing in court at a later date, police say.
