A missing eight-year-old walked around three kilometres through dense scrub and forest near Reefton before being found six hours later on New Year's Day.
A search was launched for the Christchurch boy when he went missing just before midday while walking on tracks surrounding the historic West Coast mining village around Waiuta.
The search involved Land Search and Rescue volunteers, a dog and cave search team, a rescue helicopter and help from the Department of Conservation.
They boy was found by a member of the public on Snowy River Rd north of Ikamatua on Tuesday night. He was unharmed.
