Police have today recovered the body of a man from the Whanganui River.
Police received a report about 7pm on Wednesday of a man in distress in the river.
Police, Coastguard, surf lifesavers and a Westpac rescue helicopter were all deployed, but the man couldn't be found.
The police dive squad resumed the search at 10:30am on Thursday. His body was found about 12:45pm.
The death has been referred to the coroner.
