He was found near the border with Somalia, Kenyan newspaper the Daily Nation reports.

Warfaa, 36, was arrested with two passports bearing different names. The other passport had the name Ramadhan Yusuf.

Kenya has been cracking down on terror suspects and their aides after the attack on Nairobi's Dusit D2 hotel, which left 21 people dead.

A spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade told Newshub the ministry is providing consular assistance to a New Zealander detained in Kenya.

They refused to provide any further information, citing privacy reasons.
