Police have made an arrest following a spate of thefts from gyms across Auckland.

A 25-year-old man is facing charges in relation to 24 burglaries at 24-hour gyms in various locations over Auckland in the past month.

He allegedly followed paying members into the facilities, or used previously stolen cards to get into the gyms, before rifling through bags and leaving with bank cards and other items.

Police said some victims only noticed when their cards were charged at nearby service stations.

Acting Detective Senior Sergeant Steve Salton reminded people to keep their valuables with them or in a secure place at all times.

"If you're heading out to the gym consider leaving valuables in a locker with a secure lock or in a pocket with a zip.

"If you lose your credit card or notice it's missing, immediately inform your bank and cancel the card," he said.

Snap Fitness Mount Roskill posted to Facebook recently about four robberies from Snap Fitness branches in Auckland.

Police have not confirmed the name of the person who has been arrested.

The accused will appear in the Waitakere District Court on February 18.
