Police find body of missing man Eddie Proosten at Maketu Falls

The body of a man who went missing at a popular Auckland swimming hole on Sunday has been found.

Eddie Proosten went swimming at Maketu Falls near Ramarama on Sunday afternoon, but failed to resurface.

Emergency services were called at 4:50pm, but failed to locate him. Police recovered Mr Proosten's body on Monday morning after the search resumed, and have advised his next of kin.

The death has been referred to the coroner.

He was one of two men who went missing at different waterfalls in south Auckland on Sunday. A second man, who has not been named, was reported missing from Hunua Falls at 2:40pm.

The popular waterfall was closed to the public while police searched for the man, to no avail.

Police and the dive squad are continuing their search for the second man.
