Police have appealed for information after a teenage girl was "suspiciously approached" by a man last week in Auckland.

The 16-year-old girl was approached by a man on Porritt Ave, in the Auckland suburb of Chatswood, last Wednesday, according to police.

Snr Sgt Callum McNeill praised the young woman for quickly walking away and informing her parents of what happened.

Her parents then told the police.

The man who approached her, described as Caucasian, was driving a white SUV type vehicle, according to police.

He approached the teenager and asked for directions before asking her inappropriate questions, opening the passenger door and asking her to get in.

He is described as being aged between 35 to 45, of slim build with black hair and two discoloured front teeth.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Waitemata Police on 09 839 0697.
