Service station staff foil alleged kidnapping

Staff at a Christchurch service station foiled an alleged kidnapping on Thursday after a customer told them he was being forced to drive to the West Coast by an armed man.

They called police, who located the car on State Highway 73 in the afternoon and followed by units. The alleged kidnapper was arrested at Lake Lyndon and taken back to Christchurch.

Police said they found a number of firearms in the vehicle.

At this stage it is understood the man and the male victim were not known to each other.
