Eight injured in Pukekohe crash

Eight people have been injured in a crash between two vans in Pukekohe, south Auckland.

The crash happened at the intersection of Gun Club Rd and Schlaepfer Rd just before 11:30am.

Four of those injured are children, aged between 6 and 13.

One is in a critical condition and one is seriously injured. The two other children are in a moderate condition.

Senior Sergeant Dave Readings said police believe some of the occupants from one of the vans were not restrained.

"This is a crucial reminder to all motorists to always wear your seatbelt when driving and ensure all passengers are also restrained before starting your journey," says Senior Sergeant Readings.

Four adults are also being treated for moderate injuries.

Gun Club Rd has been closed where it meets Helvetia Rd, and cordons are in place.

The serious crash unit is investigating.
