Three young teens have been arrested after police used road spikes during a chase in Hamilton.

Snr Sgt Tina Shaw says officers saw a "suspicious vehicle" in Bader at around 3:10am on Sunday. According to NZME, the car had been stolen earlier.

"The driver failed to remain stopped for police and officer engaged a short pursuit," Snr Sgt Shaw told Newshub.

"Road spikes were laid on Peachgrove Rd, which were successfully deployed a few minutes later. The vehicle came to a stop, and the three occupants fled the car on foot."

But the trio didn't get far. Police managed to catch the vehicle's occupants shortly afterwards.

Two boys, aged 14 and 15, and a 14-year-old girl were taken into custody.

"We would remind people to stop promptly for police when it's safe to do so," Snr Sgt Shaw said.
