Vigil planned for slain Auckland woman Xi Wang

A vigil will be held for Xi Wang, who was killed in the Auckland suburb of Flat Bush on December 10.

Ms Wang was allegedly murdered in front of her four-year-old son. Her ex-partner Ephraim Beazley has been charged with her murder.

There had been heavy suppression orders in place surrounding Ms Wang's killing, but these have now been lifted.

As a result, charity Shakti, which supports migrant and refugee women, has announced plans for a vigil in Auckland's Aotea Square on January 30.

The vigil calls for attendees to unite against domestic violence.

"We hope and pray when migrant women of colour who face additional barriers to seeking help and accessing justice can receive just as much support, compassion and understanding from the general public," the vigil description says.

A spokesperson for Shakti told Newshub there are plans for speakers from different communities and space for friends of Ms Wang to share stories of her if they want to.

Around 50 people have said they will be attending the event and a further 150 have said they are interested in attending. The Shakti spokesperson said the event will hopefully have 200 attendees.

"We hope women like Xi Wang won't be forgotten and the lives of other women taken by men's violence won't be forgotten," the spokesperson said.

"We must join together and do everything we can to prevent domestic violence and provide adequate support to women, youth and children of all cultures to move forward towards a safer and violence-free world."

Vigil attendees are advised to bring their own candles.

Thousands of people attended vigils held across the country in December in memory of murdered British backpacker Grace Millane.
