A man is in Auckland Hospital in a critical condition after receiving gunshot wounds to the lower back and buttocks on Monday morning.
The incident occurred just before 4:30am on Brigham Creek Rd, Whenuapai, on the city's northwest fringe.
The 33-year-old was taken to Auckland Hospital with serious injuries. They've since been upgraded to critical.
Auckland Transport confirmed just after 6am Brigham Creek Rd had been closed off between the roundabout at State Highway 16 and Joseph McDonald Dr.
A St John spokesperson says they were called to Brigham Creek Rd around 4:27am, and transported one male to Auckland Hospital in a moderate condition.
Police say anyone with information should call them on (09) 839 0600 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
They will be conducting a scene examination Monday morning.
