A man is believed to have cut off his hand with a skill saw in Christchurch.
Emergency services were called to a recycling business in Hornby just after 10.30am on Friday.
An employee of the business has been taken to Christchurch Hospital in a critical condition, St John says.
WorkSafe has been notified.
