A man has been charged following a family harm incident in Whangarei on Friday night.
Police were called to a house on Maunu Rd at 6:30pm, which caught fire shortly after.
A 33-year-old was arrested an hour later on charges of kidnapping, possession of an offensive weapon and threatening to kill.
He will appear in Whangarei District Court on Saturday.
"We would like to thank residents in Maunu Rd and the surrounding areas for their cooperation as we worked to locate the man," police said in a statement.
Everyone got out of the burning property safely.
