Seaplane crashes into Auckland Harbour

A person has been rescued from Auckland Harbour near Wynyard Quarter after an incident involving a seaplane.

Photos and video of the incident showed multiple boats attempting to rescue someone.

Police said emergency services were attending an incident where a seaplane "flipped near the Auckland Viaduct”.

However, multiple witnesses reported seeing the seaplane crash into the water.

Rosalyn Okasene, who was on the ferry at the time, told Newshub the plane crashed as it was landing.

"We just saw the seaplane going to land and then when it touched the water it did a flip and went straight into the water nose first," she said.

One woman took to social media to say it was "horrifying" to watch the plane "crash".

There was only one person in the plane and they made it out safely, according to police.

A witness told Newshub that boats, including some from the Navy, arrived at the scene.
