Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern is in Nelson on Thursday discussing the bushfires that have ripped through parts of the Tasman region.
The bushfire began on Pigeon Valley Road in Wakefield, near Nelson. As of Thursday morning, it covers 1900 hectares and is still burning uncontrolled.
Around 182 homes have been evacuated.
A second fire broke out on nearby Rabbit Island on Wednesday afternoon, and a number of people were evacuated. The fire on Rabbit Island has now been contained.
