Shotover River boat crash

A boat on the Shotover River has crashed with 10 people on board, causing injuries to nine passengers.

Police and emergency services were called to Skippers Canyon, near Queenstown, at around 10am on Saturday.

It was later confirmed the boat involved was a commercial jet.

The occupants received injuries ranging from minor to moderate. They have all been taken to Lakes District Hospital by helicopter for treatment.

The swift water rescue team was on stand-by, but has been stood-down.

A spokesperson for the company Skippers Canyon Jet, the only operator in that area of the river, refused to comment when contacted by Newshub.

The Transport Accident Investigation Commission has been notified, along with Maritime New Zealand.
