Auckland Transport (AT) says the bus strike that affected North Shore services this morning has been called off.

A message by AT on social media said the affected services will be returning to schedule.

North Shore bus services were cancelled for a period this morning due to a surprise strike.

AT said the cancellations were due to a bus depot strike.

It said the following services were affected by the strike: 82, 101, 105, 110, 129, 801, 802, 805, 806, 807, 814, 842, 843, 923 & 924.

The Northern Express service was not affected, AT said.

Auckland woman Trish Bowell said she was waiting at the bus stop with a group of other people before they found out both services to that stop had been cancelled.

"Both were cancelled meaning we were stranded with no way to get to the expressway."

She said AT had handled the announcement poorly.

"I find it odd that they have a perfectly good app that they don't use to communicate to their users. As of now there still hasn't been a notification on the app."
