A Tauranga woman has been charged after allegedly leaving a baby alone in an overheating car last week.

The baby was left in a car on Gravatt Rd in Papamoa Beach last Thursday, at the height of a nationwide heatwave.

The 21-year-old woman will appear in court next week charged with neglecting a child.

Police can’t confirm how long the child was in the car before being found.

There have been a string of similar cases in New Zealand over the past couple of weeks as a sweltering heatwave hit the country.
