An Auckland woman is in hospital after her trip to a KFC drive-thru went awry.
The woman drove into oncoming traffic on Sunday night from the drive-thru in Lynfield after accidentally pushing the vehicle's accelerator.
Inspector Kai Shao says the woman had opened the car door to pick up her Eftpos card from the ground.
She then pushed the accelerator, and as the car moved forward she fell out, and the vehicle went into oncoming traffic.
Police say she suffered cuts to her face.
