The armed offenders squad used tear gas to arrest a man who threatened police with a gun on Sunday night.

Police were in Rosyln, Palmerston North, investigating a driver that had fled from a previous attempt to apprehend him.

After the man displayed a gun from a property on Clyde Cres, the armed offenders squad was deployed and the street closed to traffic.
