It may be a little darker in Auckland on Saturday evening as the Sky Tower goes dark for Earth Hour.
Earth Hour is a global movement which began in 2007 to encourage individuals and businesses to turn off non-essential lights for one hour, aimed at helping the environment and fighting climate change.
Beginning in Sydney, the campaign has since grown to involve thousands of cities across more than 150 countries, including in New Zealand.
On Saturday night, the Sky Tower will be one of the first monuments to "go dark" between 8:30pm and 9:30pm.
"The lights will go off in support of this global initiative that shines a light on climate change," a statement from Sky City says.
"Sky City has a strong commitment to sustainability and the environment."
Other landmarks which have previously turned off their lights include the Eiffel Tower, the Empire State Building, and London's Tower Bridge.
The campaign has been previously criticised as the reduction in power for one hour is seen as relatively insignificant in comparison to what is needed to be done to fight climate change.
But advocates suggest it is a much needed symbolic gesture.
