Australian Senator says 'egg boy' should have been slapped 'a long time ago'

The Australian Senator who hit a teenage boy who egged him has stood by his actions, saying he should have been slapped by his mother a long time ago.

Senator Fraser Anning said he was acting in self-defence when he hit Melbourne teen, Will Connolly, who has since been dubbed 'egg boy.'

He told local news sources the boy "got a slap across the face, which is what his mother should have given him long ago, because he's misbehaving badly."

"When somebody cracks you in the back of your head, you react and defend yourself."

But Prime Minister Scott Morrison has condemned the senator for his actions, and for a statement he released regarding the Christchurch shooting, saying "the real cause of bloodshed on New Zealand streets today is the immigration program which allowed Muslim fanatics to migrate to New Zealand in the first place."

The Australian Government will move a censure motion condemning Senator Anning's comments when parliament returns next month.

'Egg boy' has become a meme in the days since his one-man protest, with groups online congratulating his effort to disrupt the Senator.

A Gofundme page was set up for the 17-year-old, raising over $40,000, which he says he will be donating to the Christchurch victim relief fund.
