Brian Tamaki backs down after posting illegal Coat of Arms video

Self-proclaimed bishop Brian Tamaki has reedited a controversial video featuring the illegal use of the New Zealand Coat of Arms.

The original version was posted to the Destiny Church Facebook page, showing Tamaki preaching with the Coat of Arms prominently displayed in the bottom left corner.

The use of the Coat of Arms is strictly restricted to Government products and services. By using the New Zealand Coat of Arms for his religious teachings, Tamaki possibly led his audience to believe he is preaching under the authority of the New Zealand Government.

The penalty for such an offence is a fine of up to $50,000 - and that's just for using it once. Continued usage could have cost Tamaki additional penalties of up to $5000 per day.

After the Ministry for Culture and Heritage informed Tamaki of the law, Destiny Church hastily removed the video from Facebook.

They have now replaced it with a version of Tamaki preaching without the New Zealand Coat of Arms in the corner.
