Police have named the two-year-old girl whose body was found on the tidal flats at Little Waihi, Maketu. She was Nevaeh Jahkaya Whatukura Ager.
Police launched an investigation after she was found last Thursday by police investigating "reports of disorder" in the Little Waihi area.
As a result of a post-mortem, police now suspect her death was homicide and are appealing to the public for information.
"Police enquires into her death continue with a team of 14 investigators working on the homicide investigation," Det Snr Sgt Greg Turner says.
"Seven members of the National Police Dive squad completed an examination of the estuary on Tuesday.
"The focus continues to identify and talk to all persons who were in the Little Waihi area between Monday 18 March and Friday 22 March."
Police extend their sympathies to the victim's family.
