A stolen vehicle filled with guns and methamphetamine has been seized during a dramatic police raid in Christchurch on Saturday.

A member of the public called emergency services after they spotted a sawn-off shotgun-wielding man taking P at a property in Ruskin St, Addington.

The armed offenders squad was called to the scene at around 3pm and officers cordoned the area off.

A 27-year-old man attempted to flee the scene but was stopped as he tried to escape in a vehicle. Methamphetamine, firearms and ammunition were found inside the car, which was confirmed as stolen.

Police say the man was arrested and charged with firearms, drugs and other offences. He will appear in the Christchurch District Court on Monday.
