On Wednesday Northland Police charged a man with her murder. He has also been charged with assault on a child, an unrelated offence.
He will appear in the Kaitaia District Court on Thursday.
Acting Detective Inspector Lloyd Schmid has thanked the Far North community for their information and support throughout the investigation into baby Maree's death.
Two weeks ago he told media key people were suspected of withholding vital information about how Maree died, although he said her family was co-operating with the investigation.
Police will not be commenting further as the matter is now before the courts.
