A second vehicle of interest has been highlighted in relation to the murder of a Tauranga man.

David Kuka was shot execution-style outside his home on Wilrose Pl last February.

Police believe it was a case of mistaken identity, but have just revealed it could be connected to the death of Mongrel Mob member Lance Waite.

The car officers would like to know more about is a silver Ford Falcon with a distinctive red bonnet.

"The vehicle was last seen in the late afternoon and evening around Tauranga on February 11, 2018, the night Mr Kuka was killed," said Det Sgt Paul Barron.

"Police are aware that Mr Kuka was previously gang affiliated but that was many years ago. At the time of his death Mr Kuka was a devout Christian and mainly kept to himself."
