One dead after being hit at Mt Albert train crossing

A person has died after they were hit by a train at a crossing in Mt Albert.

Police were called to the Woodward Rd crossing in central Auckland just after 1:30pm on Wednesday.

There are a significant number of police officers at the scene, as well as fire and ambulance staff.

A police spokesperson told Newshub trains will be delayed for a while longer as the scene is investigated.

Parts of Woodward Rd have been closed to the public and motorists are aked to avoid the area if possible.

"The circumstances around the incident are not clear at this early stage," a spokesperson said.

Auckland Transport has confirmed part of the Western Line has been affected.

It's the second death at the Woodward Rd crossing in four months. In December, a person was killed after being struck by a train carrying 70 passengers.
