One person is dead after a tragic incident at Pauanui Beach in the Coromandel on Sunday afternoon.
Police were called to the scene about 3:50pm after the accident was reported.
"The person is understood to have sustained injuries in a boating incident," a police spokesperson says. "A second person has also sustained injuries."
Cordons are in place while emergency services work at the scene.
Police say the death will be referred to the Coroner.
