Three Avondale schools were placed in lockdown on Tuesday afternoon for just over 30 minutes after police received reports of a person nearby with a weapon.
Police said in a statement they were alerted to an incident at around 1:40pm and it was believed someone had a firearm.
"Surrounding schools were put into lockdown as a precautionary measure."
Rosebank Primary told Newshub they had received a phonecall from police just before 2pm asking them to immediately begin lockdown procedures.
Police said they soon established the person was only carrying a BB gun, which fires plastic pellets.
The schools are no longer in lockdown.
