Police say the "suspicious package" at North Shore Hospital that triggered evacuations is not suspicious after all.

Emergency services and the New Zealand Defence Force were called to the hospital on Monday afternoon after the package was reported.

Cordons were put in place and some staff were evacuated.

"Enquires have since confirmed the package is not suspicious," a police spokesperson says.

"Cordons have been lifted and staff have been allowed back into the building."

Police are still at the scene.
