Retirement home killing: 75yo accused enters no plea over 70yo woman's death

The 70-year-old man who allegedly murdered a 75-year-old woman at a Kapiti retirement home appeared in Porirua District Court on Wednesday.

He was granted interim name suppression, and entered no plea. He is scheduled to appear in Wellington High Court on the 26th March.

A report has been ordered into the man's fitness to stand trial.

Police were called to the Westgate Drive address at 9.40am on Tuesday where they discovered the body of the deceased woman.

It is estimated she was murdered between 4th and 5th of March.

A forensics team was on site, and police could be seen going door-to-door.
