A man has died in Aoraki/Mt Cook National Park over the weekend in what is believed to be a trail running accident.
The 55-year-old Twizel man was reported overdue from his run on Saturday night.

Authorities launched a search and rescue operation, and his body was found on the Ball Pass Crossing track on Sunday morning by members of the public.
"Initial investigations indicate that the man may have slipped while descending the track," a police spokesperson says.
"Our thoughts are with his family at this difficult time."
His death will be referred to the Coroner.
