A body has been located inside a vehicle that is believed to have driven off a bridge in Tauranga.
The police national dive squad were sent to the Maungatapu Bridge on State Highway 29A on Sunday morning, after a section of the bridge's railings was reported as missing on Saturday night.
CCTV footage of the road showed a car colliding with the bridge but not what happened after the incident occurred.
The New Zealand Transport Agency said a crane was used to recover the vehicle.
The road between Maungatapu and the Baypark roundabout only reopened at 2:30pm on Sunday.
Police would still like to hear from anyone who has information about this collision and are urged to contact Tauranga Police on (07) 577 4300.
