Child left with 'serious injuries' in alleged Karori murder

Police have revealed a child was injured in a serious incident in the Wellington suburb of Karori on Friday.

Officers were called to an address on Lemnos Street at 1:10pm on Friday. The body of a 52-year-old woman was located inside one of the properties.

Police have now announced a child was also found at the scene with "serious injuries".

"The child had significant injuries, she was taken to Wellington hospital and underwent surgery last night," says Det Snr Sgt Warwick McKee.

A 30-year old Wellington man has been charged with the murder of the 52-year-old, and police say further charges are likely as a child recovers in hospital.

The accused appeared in court on Saturday and was granted interim name suppression. He was remanded in custody to appear in the Wellington High Court on April 30th.The victim's details are also suppressed.

A scene examination is still underway at a property in Karori as police continue their enquiries.

They are not seeking anyone else in relation to the incident, and have assured members of the public "there's no threat to their safety".
