An anomaly in MetService's weather data showing Levin being battered by more than 400km/h winds on Friday is inaccurate, according to the weather forecaster.

On Saturday, MetService's weather site showed Levin had blustery 413km/h south-westerly peak wind gusts on Friday.

However, the weather forecaster told Newshub the "weird anomaly" is incorrect, and the strongest gusts to hit the North Island town on Friday were only 50km/h.

That's still higher than gusts over the last few days.

The previous strongest breeze was 41km/h last Friday, according to the MetService website.

It told Newshub it would look into what caused the issue.
