A third person has died on the roads this long weekend, 30 minutes before the end of the Easter road toll.
The crash took place at 5:30am on Tuesday between Waiapu Rd and Waiau Rd near Anaura Bay, north of Gisborne. The Easter road toll period ended at 6am on Tuesday.
Police say the road will be blocked for some time and motorists are asked to avoid the area while emergency services are at the scene.
