Eight people injured in crash after 26 die on NZ roads in a week

One person has been critically injured, and seven others are injured in a serious crash near Whakatane.

The crash comes after a deadly week on New Zealand roads. Twenty six people have been killed in crashes over the past seven days.

The two vehicle collision occurred on State Highway 30 near Braemar Road, Rotoma.

Police were called to the scene at 2.15pm on Friday.

The road has been closed, and is likely to stay that way for several hours as the Serious Crash Unit investigates.

Motorists are asked to avoid the area.

Police are seeking witnesses, and ask anyone who witnessed the crash, or has information is asked to call Whakatane Police Station on 07 308 5255.
