The spokesperson for a family who lost seven members in a horrifying crash just north of Taupō will speak to media from Waikato Hospital after 11:30am.
The tragedy occurred when two cars collided in wet conditions in Atiamuri. Newshub understands a couple and five of their children were amongst those killed in the accident.
Their nine-year-old son was the sole survivor and is currently in a stable condition in Waikato Hospital, after being airlifted there with critical injuries.
A long-serving member of Scouts New Zealand is understood to have died in the other vehicle involved.
