A 67-year-old man has been arrested following a shooting incident at a Karapiro cafe in the Waikato this morning.

A member of the public identified the alleged offender, according to a police statement.

The incident happened just after 9am on Thursday on Tirau Rd at Karapiro Cafe and Gifts. A Caucasian male aged in his 50s or 60s entered the shop and shot a man working there, police said at the time.

The victim received moderate injuries and was taken to hospital.

Police say the offender left the scene in a white or light coloured older model vehicle, driven by a female.
