Missing three-day-old baby found, returned to hospital

A missing three-day-old baby has been found at a house in the Auckland suburb of Royal Oak.

Police say the boy was found safe and well just before midnight on Monday and has been taken to Middlemore Hospital for assessment.

There were concerns for the infant's wellbeing when he was removed from the hospital at two days old on Monday afternoon.

"I have serious concerns for the wellbeing of the baby boy who desperately requires medical care," Detective Senior Sergeant Malcolm Hassall said at the time.

His mother, Dorothy Opetaia, was found at another house on Monday.
