Emergency authorities are investigating after two houses caught fire in Auckland.

On Saturday afternoon, fire services were called to the scene of a house fire in the Auckland suburb of Massey.

The house on Garton Dr was well alight when firefighters arrived and neighbouring house also soon caught fire from the blaze.

Fires at both houses have been contained, but cordons are in place to allow Fire and Emergency New Zealand to investigate. No cause of the fire has yet been determined.

There are no initial reports of serious injury, but one individual who was reportedly in the house was treated for smoke inhalation, says Police.

Images of the scene show smoke continuing to rise from one of the houses which is partially destroyed.
