One person is dead after a home burnt to the ground in a remote part of the Bay of Plenty.
A second person has been taken to hospital in a moderate condition.
Emergency services were called to the address on Mātaatua Road, near Ruatāhuna, at 2am on Wednesday morning.
Police and Fire and Emergency are at the scene, and working to determine the cause of the fire.
A Fire and Emergency spokesperson says the house has burnt to the ground.
