A man has been arrested after carjacking three vehicles north of Wellington.

On Wednesday morning, a 25-year-old man allegedly attacked someone at a Champion St address in Porirua, before stealing their vehicle and travelling north on State Highway 1.

While travelling north, the man has then taken two other vehicles in the Raumati area, with one in Poplar Ave and another in the Raumati Beach shopping area.

The owners of both vehicles stolen were injured during the carjackings.

Police initiated a pursuit of the man due to his failure to stop.

A person was injured during a minor crash as the driver tried to flee.

After deploying spikes, the vehicle was stopped near Peka Peka, roughly two hours after the assault in Porirua, and the man was arrested.

The incident has caused significant delays on the Kapiti Expressway, with the northbound off-ramp at Poplar Ave closed.

The man will appear in the Porirua District Court on Thursday.
