The tramper missing in Canterbury between Lewis Pass Rd and Nina Hut has been found "safe and well" by a search and rescue team.

Brigitte Visagie, 56, was returning from Nina Hut on Saturday with two companions when she became separated.

She had last been seen at the Nina swing bridge.

Police launched a search and an appeal for information, leading to her discovery on Sunday.

"She was located by a LandSAR volunteer team a short time ago, not far from where she was last seen," a police spokesperson says.
