A decently strong earthquake shook Fiordland overnight.
The magnitude 5.2 shake could be felt across Otago and Southland, according to reports on Geonet's website.
It struck at 1:40am about 40km west of Te Anau, and was 64km deep.

A quake that struck almost the exact same spot in 2009 was as strong as the 2016 Kaikoura quake - magnitude 7.8.
