A street robbery devolved into a fight that ended in a stabbing in East Tamaki, Auckland, on Sunday morning.
A man's phone was stolen in the robbery, shortly before 4am, police said.
"The man and some associates later located the phone and confronted a group of people who had the stolen phone," a police spokesperson told Newshub.
"A fight broke out and police were called."
Five were arrested for fighting.
The stabbing victim is in hospital in an unknown condition.
Police say they're still making enquiries and charges are likely.
