Rural South Auckland community in shock after man shot on Sunday

A small rural community in South Auckland is in shock after a man was shot there on Sunday afternoon.

The victim who was critically injured is now in a stable condition in Middlemore Hospital.

Police have been working to establish the circumstances around what happened.

A 37-year-old man appeared in the Manukau District Court on Monday.

Police charged him with wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm and unlawful possession of a firearm.

South Auckland locals were reluctant to speak to media but they told Newshub it was completely out of sorts for such a tight knit community.

Police say the incident is not related to the fatal shooting in Clover Park on Saturday.

A scene guard will remain in place overnight.
