Sir Peter Leitch, the Mad Butcher, fighting for his life in hospital

Sir Peter Leitch, the rugby league-loving founder of the Mad Butcher, says he is in hospital battling for his life.

Sir Peter commented on a Facebook post he made after the Warriors loss to North Queensland Cowboys on Saturday that he wasn’t at the game and he was "bloody grateful I woke up today."

"I’m not gonna comment individually as I was not at the game I’m in hospital but I’ve been hospital battling for my life the last few days so I’ll leave it at that you’re all entitled to your opinion’s summary

"But I’m not up to again with anyone I’m just bloody greatful I woke up today," he posted.

The comment sparked a flood of comments from well-wishers.

He didn’t say what was wrong with him but Warriors chief executive Cameron George told NZME they wished him a speedy recovery.

"He is a massive part of our club and culture and we can't wait to have him back fighting fit again soon."

In 2010, shortly after he was knighted, Sir Peter announced he was wining his battle against bladder cancer and urged men to go to the doctor and get their prostates checked.
